چکیده

We functionalised core-shell CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDots) with short-chain 3-mercaptopropionic acid (3MPA) to render these nanocrystalline semiconductor water-soluble. The ligand-exchange reaction was significantly improved with the use of an organic base to first remove the thiolic hydrogen. Non-bound 3MPA could be removed from the colloid by dialysis, but it was found that the choice of membrane is important. Cellulose membrane obliterated the photoluminescence of the QDots, while cellulose-acetate membrane worked well. Aminemodified DNA was then attached to the QDots through amide bond linkage, using EDC and NHS as reaction promoters. The pH of the reaction medium has an important impact on the successful attachment of functional DNA on the QDots. Index Terms — CdSe/ZnS, DNA, quantum dots.

P-156: A Study about Toxicity of CdSe Quantum Dots on Male Sexual System of Mice and Controlling This Toxicity by ZnS Coverage in Immature Mice

Background: Quantum dots are commonly composed of cadmium contained semiconductors. Cadmium is potentially hazardous but toxicity of such quantum dots is not yet systematically investigated. On the other hand, in vitro studies have shown almost complete control of CdSe induced cytotoxicity by ZnS coverage. Toxicity of CdSe quantum dots and controlling this toxicity by ZnS coverage in immature m...

Comparison of Toxicity of CdSe: ZnS Quantum Dots on Male Reproductive System in Different Stages of Development in Mice

Background Quantum dots (QDs) are new types of fluorescent materials for biological labeling. QDs toxicity study is an essential requirement for future clinical applications. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate cytotoxic effects of CdSe: ZnS QDs on male reproductive system. MaterialsAndMethods In this experimental study, the different concentrations of CdSe: ZnS QDs (10, 20 and 40 mg/kg) we...

CdSe/ZnS Quantum Dots trigger DNA repair and antioxidant enzyme systems in Medicago sativa cells in suspension culture

BACKGROUND Nanoparticles appear to be promising devices for application in the agriculture and food industries, but information regarding the response of plants to contact with nano-devices is scarce. Toxic effects may be imposed depending on the type and concentration of nanoparticle as well as time of exposure. A number of mechanisms may underlie the ability of nanoparticles to cause genotoxi...

Fluid phase endocytic uptake of artificial nano-spheres and fluorescent quantum dots by sycamore cultured cells: evidence for the distribution of solutes to different intracellular compartments.

Fluid phase endocytic uptake of external solutes in plant cells was further substantiated using artificial polystyrene nano-spheres (40 nm) and CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (20 nm). Both types of artificial nano-particles were taken up by sycamore-cultured cells. However, whereas polystyrene nano-spheres were delivered to the central vacuole, CdSe/ZnS nano-dots were sequestered into cytoplasmic vesicu...
